Inventory:
  • Spare bag with: change of clothes, make-up, hair brush/ties/hairspray, spare flats - honestly the contents seem like they belong to a completely different person + a bug that Hardison stuck on her because he thought he was slick
  • Earbud
  • A small stack of fake IDs (~5)
  • Pork rinds

  • Powers —

    Skills:
  • World-class grifter and actress – can create a character/identity at the drop of a hat. Is good at ingratiating herself with people to earn their trust, and seeing through to their next steps so that she can anticipate them. She also loves an accent.
  • General thievery – Picking locks, sleight of hand and pickpocketing. Usually for security codes she’ll just get the mark to open the door for her, but she’s been known to discern a password out of clues from the mark’s living space.
  • Speaks 10+ languages
  • Neuro-lingusitic programming – This is a long term thing where Sophie has to spend a lot of time with the mark but contrary to popular belief it’s not a superpower, just more connective reinforcement—using specific words, gestures, etc. to encourage the desired behavior from the mark. This likely won’t be used in game without a lot of pre-plotting and a lot of long term CR.
  • She can hold her own in a fight, to defend herself if needed, but she’s not a fighter.

  • Superpowers:
Sophie will be gaining ice powers from the confluence that brings here here. She’ll be starting with a low level ability – chilling the air around her, being able to freeze something if she has it in her hands, etc. Not going full frozone or Iceman exactly, but that might be something she could level up into in the future.

    Limitations:
Sophie is an average human woman with no healing factor or any thing else of that caliber. She also is smart, though not always as smart as she thinks she is. She also can be impulsive, going after what she wants without giving thought to the consequences, so complications are much more likely to come up in her cons. She’s not the mastermind, as much as she likes to think she is.

    Personality —

Sophie Devereaux is a woman who is an expert at being anyone but herself. An accomplished grifter and thief, Sophie was initially introduced in the series as the best actress you’d ever see, but only when she’s breaking the law. When it comes to creating a character for a con, she is very method in her approach, creating everything about them down to the last detail, making them more than just names and aliases. They become parts of her, which makes it that much harder for her to bury them away when they become compromised. Sophie Devereaux isn’t even her real name, yet it’s the one almost everyone knows her by, and that fact alone isolates her more than she would care to admit.

She spent years bouncing from alias to alias, just trying to keep ahead of the authorities who would want to arrest her for the things she did, as well as building up a collection of artwork and other rare items to “retire” with. Once she’s recruited by Nate to help with his Robin Hood style thief crew that used their skills in order to help people who were unable to be helped by the law, she starts to find more of a greater purpose to her life, however she still holds on to that isolated lifestyle, which culminates in conning her new friends into taking a job that was mostly for her own mutual benefit as a matter of pride and ambition, as oppose to helping the helpless. She went back to save her friends from Sterling in the end, but the damage was done, and it would take her a while to earn that trust back.

Over the course of the second season, Sophie comes to deal with some issues of identity. We learn in the series premiere that she’s entered a relationship and is trying to live her life as a normal, average person, but her boyfriend doesn’t even know who she is, the person she is with him becoming another alias and another person that she wasn’t truly was. After an attempt is made on her life, the team stages a fake funeral for her, and she finds herself depressed by the turnout itself. All the people she has met in her life, and none of them ever knew her, not even the people she knew that most closely resembled friends. She then takes a leave of absence from the crew, going away to try and find herself again. She wasn’t gone completely—she kept in contact with all of the people she’d come to consider family to help them when they needed it. She placed a friend in with them, to keep an eye on them in case they needed her, and when things for Nate and the other spiraled out of control, she stepped back in to keep them safe, working her own con to get them to the same end.

Moving forward she’s trying to make real connections as a real person and rely less on her drive for the con. She’s also wrestling with some of the wrongs she’s done before she joined the Leverage team, including the family she ruined when she was coming up when she was younger.

    Gameplay —
    Areas of Interest / Brainstorming:
Sophie’s understanding of the world shapes her ability and confidence to walk through it. She is able to become what people wants her to because she understands the baseline rules and how to bend them. Throw superheroes and super powers into the mix, and that’s all going to go out the window. I’d love to kind of explore how that dynamic changes things for her, and how she adapts to the new world order in the process.

Also getting into thieving shenanigans with the members of her team that are with her, obviously. Can’t make things too different from how they are at home.
